FAQs
Can I do Pilates while pregnant?
Yes! Pilates can be a really safe and effective way to support your body during pregnancy when it’s tailored appropriately. Classes are designed to support all the weird and wonderful changes in your body, focusing on strength, mobility, and relaxation; as well as preparing you for birth.
When can I start prenatal Pilates?
You can usually start at any point in your pregnancy, as long as you feel well. If you have any medical concerns or a high-risk pregnancy, it’s always best to check with your midwife or GP first.
When can I start postnatal Pilates?
This depends on your birth:
-
Vaginal birth: often around 6 weeks
-
C-section: usually 8–12 weeks
That said, gentle movement and breathing work can often begin sooner, and I have welcomed mums with both types of birth sooner. Always get medical clearance before returning to exercise and feel free to get in touch if you want to have a conversation about it.
Do I need to have done Pilates before my pregnancy?
Not at all. Classes are beginner-friendly and designed to meet you where you are - whether you’re completely new or returning after a break. Pilates exercises are layered so you can work at gentler options or progress to more challenging / advanced options.
Are all babies welcome?
Yes. Babies of all ages are very welcome in postnatal classes - even if they are moving around. The room is baby friendly and as long as you are happy for them to roam, it's not a problem. There’s no pressure if you need to stop to feed, change, or soothe them. But equally, if you have childcare at home and want to take some time for you, please do! Please do not bring your baby if they are ill.
What if my baby cries or needs me during class?
That’s completely normal. These classes are a judgement-free space full of babies who are crying, chatting, rolling around and filling their nappies. You can tend to your baby whenever needed.
I have diastasis recti / pelvic floor issues - can I still join?
Yes. Pilates is actually one of the best ways to support recovery when done correctly. Exercises will be adapted to suit you, and you’ll be guided safely. If you’re unsure, you can always get in touch before booking.
Will this help with back, hip, or neck pain?
Very likely. Many people find relief from common pregnancy and postnatal aches through targeted strengthening and mobility work. You can also find tips for this on my Instagram and TikTok pages.
